There's nothing inherently flawed with manually burping a container, provided you consistently remember to do so, accurately gauge the timing, and control the amount of air exchanged. However, the advantage of the Cure Puck lies in its ability to offer enhanced guidance on when and for how long to burp automatically. This ensures consistent, optimal results with each use. Introducing excessive dry air can potentially compromise the curing process, just as introducing excessive moisture can.

Oxygen serves a dual purpose in the curing process. It acts as the fuel for aerobic activity, facilitating the enhancement of the curing process. This aerobic activity, known as respiration, involves the enzymatic breakdown of stored organic matter, such as carbohydrates, which consumes oxygen and produces CO2. However, prolonged exposure to excessive oxygen can result in oxidation. In dried cannabis, oxidation can lead to the degradation of organic compounds, including cannabinoids and terpenes, resulting in a loss of potency and undesirable alterations in flavor, aroma, and appearance.
